June Event: The Time Compression Mage and the Battle for Tears Point

During June, Witches Reign will be running an all-month story event focused on a mysterious "Time Compression Mage," with a plotline that will endanger the whole world unless the brave SeeDs of Garden can save the day!

We encourage all players to try to participate, or at least try to be aware of how the event progresses. The nature of the event means all characters will be affected in one way or another, and character actions will strongly affect its outcome. In addition, we will encourage players to keep an eye on the weekly posts, as news items may reveal significant information.

This post will provide an outline and general information in regards to the event, as well as enabling player discussion. First, however, we'll start with an important note regarding the event timeframe.

Important Note: Event Timeframe

This event will span the four full weeks of June as per the outline. Please note that we are altering the usual IC/OOC day ratio during the event - while the first stage will take place as usual, we will allow one week OOCly per one IC day for the subsequent stages. This alteration is to allow sufficient time to play out each stage, and applies only to the event. The outline indicates the IC date.

We are going to handwave the IC passage of time between the IC and OOC ends of the event. Posts can be backdated to "missing" time for any purpose you want, but beyond that, don't worry too much about the passage of time for any purposes.

In regards to the handwaved period, what happens may depend on how the event progresses. However, currently, we anticipate Garden's classes to resume after the 17th of June ICly, and for Garden to make a two week stop in the nearby city of Esthar.

Outline

June 3-9: Arrival of the Time Compression Mage

A man, henceforth known as the Time Compression Mage, approaches Garden seeking help for his experiments, claiming that he can use his magic to manipulate the Time Compression distortion at Tears Point and create a portal allowing offworlders to retun home. Commander Zabala rejects him out of hand, as his methods are untested and unproven, but over the course of the week the Mage continues to seek support from the offworlders housed within Garden. It's entirely possible that he will gain some, as his plans are not described in full detail.

Towards the end of the week, a representative from the offworld faction Sol Invictus appears with a warning. The Time Compression Mage's plans involve summoning copies of the Lunatic Pandora from the distortion, ultimately resulting in a Lunar Cry of devastating proportions and rendering the world uninhabitable. Once this is revealed, however, the Mage vanishes from Garden; his efforts will go on without their help, even from those who might continue to support him.

The next three weeks essentially take place of the span of a day each:

June 10-16: Preparations (IC Date: June 10)

With the news that the Mage's efforts will lead to global catastrophe, Balamb has only a day to prepare for action. There are two apparent goals here: stop the mage, and repel any monsters his efforts may summon via Lunar Cry. Note that player character actions and suggestions here will seriously affect the next two stages.

Make plans and preparations, assign teams if you wish, and use the assets you have. Sol Invictus announces its intention to fight, but characters may or may not view them as allies.

June 17-23: The Battle, Phase 1 (IC Date: June 11)

The characters enter the fray, attempting to penetrate the Time Compression distortion, as the Mage begins to summon Lunatic Pandoras from the distortion and the Lunar Cry begins. During this phase, player requests and ideas may be implemented. From here on out, what happens is up to you, the players: your efforts and your actions determine the results of this week. It won't be easy, but it wouldn't be worthwhile if it was.

June 24-30: The Battle, Phase 2, and Denouement (IC Date: June 11-12)

Maybe this phase is a mop-up action, maybe a desperate race to intercept the Mage, maybe a fallback against the overwhelming forces brought down from the Moon. Whatever happens, the final phase of this story will forever change the game world - the how is up to you.

Player Involvement

As you can see, this story can take various directions. If you have any questions, ideas, or suggestions for this plot, or simply wish to plot with other players, feel free to use the comments to this post! We'll be happy to accommodate suggestions or ideas you have for the plot, action within it, or specific requests for scenes or occurrences - just give us a poke. If you don't want your suggestion to be public, you are also welcome to PM the mod account.

Furthermore, if anyone is interested in running a part of this (for example monster NPCing or a side-plot), we'll accept that too! We will also have OOC posts for each week for discussion and planning.

Okay! Something I can sink my teeth into! :D Mods, I approve wholeheartedly.

Question time though!

1. Are the monsters that this Time Compression Mage summons going to be as weak as the monsters that showed up post Lunar-Cry in FF8?
2. Possible first male Sorcerer? o.o HRMMMMM... you've got my gears churning here.

Plot with Me!

So guys! Having a character who has fought a Sorceress in the past, Selphie's suspicion's are going to be on high alert. She isn't going to point fingers or blame anybody but if she's been a bit more serious the past few days (because I've put her on auto-pilot) it's because of this Time Compression Mage. Chances are pretty high that she's going to back Commander Zabala on this because someone being able to manipulate Time Compression when the only person who could do so is DEAD and sealed up thanks to canon events just isn't going to sit too well with her. She'll be seen putting way more effort into getting back into a decent training regimen and pretty much just stopping to eat and sleep. She knows that something stinks about this and it doesn't sit too well with her.

Also, if she catches wind of anybody trying to blame others for this, expect to be blasted.

But heyo, come at me folks! Let's work some stuff out. :D

Seconding the approval!

Plot Stuff

SEIFER IS GOING TO NOPE SO HARD AT THIS GUY. "Time Compression Mage" HIS BUTT.

He's going to go in with a team (or alone if he has to) to go after the fool once things get rolling. He's also piloted the/a Lunatic Pandora before so there's that.

WHO WANTS IN ON TEAM BADASS?

Reasons just being he likes kicking things.

Guys.

Mikuru's Miracle outfit has time travel properties.

Anyone want to reverse engineer something that might help with penetrating/traveling through/manipulating the time compression bubble? Mikuru hasn't the foggiest how time travel in her outfit works, just that it does, and I'm personally cool with SCIENCE! or MAGIC! people making that up.

(I apped her with the stipulation that she can't time travel in this universe, but people could totally adapt something based on it.)

EDIT: AND ALSO. As badass as Touma (and Gaomon) are, Touma thinks he's more needed as a doctor. SO.
  • He needs a gopher to go get supplies for him! And he'll probably be making up little first aid kits for all the battlers to take in. (Or delegating Gaomon to lead this.)
  • Haven't taken REC 101? That's cool, Touma will give you hasty training/Cure stocks. Especially y'all non-combatants so you can help the hell out. (This could be an opportunity during the battle too, for, say, a defense team for the medics.)

Does Touma need someone to assist with healing?

Totes! Especially with the infirmary team having gone. I am sort of thinking he'd like a team of dedicated medics/healers (and hastily trained non-combatants) with him for serious injuries, and all the people fighting to have first aid kits and magic stocks.

Excellent! Gakupo can help! He's specialized in para-magic (all the areas) and it would be good for him to use more of his healing skills.

Grell will make sure all hell breaks loose. She's gotten bored, and once she has heard about the news of her son disappearing, she'll be bitter. :|
