January's activity check is now over. We thank everyone who took the time to check in! Because that really is everyone, which is why we're closing early. YAY GAME!

As promised, all SeeD Ranks have been increased by one out of respect for their participation in the Island training.

The new term will be starting next week, and as such, the master class schedule is now available! This is a way to form new CR or strengthen the old, as you can see who shares classes and organize to take classes together. As a reminder, classes are no longer limited to cadets; SeeDs may also audit classes to sharpen up skills or learn new ones, and remedial classes such as English and math are now open to non-cadet/SeeD staff members. This term LAN 101 (Foreign Language) will be teaching Old Centran, a Latin equivalent.

From this term, school terms will now be called trimesters rather than quarters. This is purely a cosmetic change, as we realized that with the three week breaks, four 'quarters' did not actually fit into a year. Four trimesters are still required for graduation.

Speaking of classes, we will no longer be posting the syllabi each week, as we feel the constant reposts are now unnecessary. We will linking them, and they remain available on the classes page.

Taking their place will be world news and playables. The latter compromises special missions and so forth, as well as providing us a place for event announcements and so forth. News will be blurbs from around Garden and around the world, the sort of thing your character might become aware of browsing the BBS or pick up through various sources. This is new to us, so you have a lot of say if you want to see something particular there.

The vastly underused student clubs and committees will be replaced by organizations which SeeDs and staff may join. This includes things like the Garden Festival Committee, the Disciplinary Committee, the Library Committee, the Card Club, and any new organizations characters may wish to form (we suggest Bladed Weapons and Paramagic Research, for example!). We would prefer that subject-related organizations (such as the suggested Bladed Weapons) be headed by a SeeD or at least have a SeeD as a consultant, in the interests of safety and providing mentoring and support for cadets and skill building for SeeDs. The traditional Committees mentioned earlier will remain student-led, to provide opportunities for student leadership. Beyond this, there are no OOC rules or requirements, except we ask that you post any formal organizations to what is currently our clubs page, but will soon be reconstructed. We hope characters have fun in their new or old organizations!

We would also like to remind everyone about the Specialization Adviser program, where Cadets may ask SeeDs for help on figuring out if a particular specialization is for them and if so, the path they take on it. Specialization advisers know the course material for their specialization and are trained to help Cadets figure out their course selection. Current specialization advisers are listed on the course catalogue page, in case any Cadets would like some IC advice about the upcoming trimester. Sign up your SeeD here; otherwise, signups are also always open on the course catalogue page.

Cadets may also seek advice from their Residential Assistants! A position for Cadets who have been at Garden for two or more quarters/trimesters, RAs watch over the Cadets within five rooms, and have similar powers to the Disciplinary Committee, eg. giving out detentions. They receive single dorm rooms, a small salary (in addition to their sponsorship allowance), and, if nothing goes horribly wrong with the rooms/cadets under their watch, a boost to their judgment score on the field exam and potentially an immediate rank increase among graduation. Sign up your cadet here; otherwise, the dorm room page is also always open for signups.

Finally, the GFC will be resurrecting the long-dead Balamb Newsletter this trimester. If you would like your character to potentially be interviewed for an article, please PM [personal profile] wrnpcs with your character's IC opinion and/or experiences on the Island Closest to Heaven mission now that they've actually been on the Island a few times (have they been beaten up horribly? did they witness something awesome?). Additionally, if you have any ideas or suggestions for articles, the old newsletter submission post is still around.
