Syllabi: Year 2, Quarter IV, Week IX + LOTS OF THINGS
REMINDER: Please reply to the activity check if you haven't already! It is closing tonight. (If you intend to drop a character, it is preferable you use the drop page, as AC idles are not cleared until Saturday.)
Classes will have an end of year break from December 23rd - January 5th, with Week XII starting on January 7th 2013; Garden will not be leaving Balamb continent for it. (There will still be the usual end of quarter break and trip following finals.) Staff will be informed, and it will be announced in homerooms.
At some point during this period the GFC will be running a three day festival (which can, if desired, include other characters' worlds celebrations). Which consecutive three days would be the best for everyone? We thought we'd put it to the playerbase so more people could participate without being forced to backdate! Alternately, which days during this period are you away? Please comment here.
With the new year will come the field exam, the final test for becoming a SeeD. If your character will participate in this, please comment here! As a reminder, only those who have been in Garden for at least four quarters and have completed all prerequisites (some double majors may require an additional quarter) qualify for the exam. (The exam won't be until after the end of the quarter; we're just looking for an idea of numbers at this stage.)
But before the break and the field exam...
Time Compression is a strange and mysterious thing, capable of plucking people from different spaces, different times, and even different universes. As it turns out, it is also capable of replacing the innocent inhabitants of Balamb Garden with alternate versions of themselves...
From December 10th through December 24th, characters may be replaced with AU versions of themselves. This can be any level of AU -- a small change to a world-shattering one. Maybe all their coin flips are reversed, so they got the shiny golden finish and chose to date Fry instead of making an excuse. Maybe that one moment that turned them into a hero made them into a villain instead. Little or big, make whatever replacement you want and see how people react to this horrific new you!
A few ground rules:
Finally, here is a basic course outline for every class offered in Garden. It will address the class material for the week and give players a general idea of what their characters will be studying in class for the day.
Academic classes will almost always provide homework related to the lesson plan for the day, so feel free to use that in logs as well. More specific homework assignments will be included in the syllabus, but otherwise the standard homework for classes will be assigned reading from the textbook related to the topics discussed in class.
This post will also act as a plot with me post for the week for both classes and missions, as well as the December event. If you haven't already, please add your character's schedule to the master class schedule for ease of seeing who all's in each class.
Players are welcomed and encourage to make threads for a class or mission they wish to plan out and discuss what their characters may be doing during the class or mission to promote character interaction; there is a thread for mission discussion here. Players may choose to handwave these interactions or play it out in a new log or action post if they so desire. Also, for the sake of organization, please label which week/class/day & time period your post is set in (EX: Week I, DAN 101, M0900) within the subject line.
Past lesson plans can be found on the Classes information page.
Again, should players have any questions/comments/concerns/suggestions about anything in this post, feel free to bring them up here (or via PM/AIM) and we'll do our best to address them in a timely manner.

December Event: HEY YOU, AU!
- The event is not mandatory. You don't have to AU your character if you don't wish to.
- AU characters retain their game memories and CR to the best of the ability of their AU to accommodate it. If you want to sit down with your fellow players and dissect just how your CR would have changed, that's fine! (Here is a good place to do so.) But applying the MST3K Mantra is also perfectly acceptable too.
- Your characters do not have to be affected at the event start, nor do they need to be affected for the entire duration of the event. This way, your regular characters can interact with AUs, your AU can interact with regular characters, and your AUs can interact with AUs.
- You may use more than one AU per character if you wish.
- Characters will have their full memory from the AU experience at the end of the event. If their AU ends before the event ends, they can remember it or not as you choose up until the event ends.
